Why "Ubuntu"?

In the Nguni languages of Southern Africa, ubuntu is often translated as "I am because we are." It speaks to our fundamental interconnectedness—the idea that our humanity is bound up with one another.

We started Ubuntu Data Solutions to close the gap between potential and progress. Whether you're a startup finding your footing or an enterprise ready to scale, we believe your data holds the seeds of transformation. Our job is to help you cultivate it—practically, ethically, and on your terms.

We chose this name because it captures how we think about data and AI. These aren't just technical tools; they're ways of understanding ourselves, our organisations, and our communities more deeply. And when done right, they should create shared value—not just for shareholders, but for everyone they touch.

Too often, AI is talked about as something to fear, or as a magic solution that will fix everything. We take a different view. AI is a powerful tool, but it's still just a tool. What matters is how we use it—with intention, with care, and with a clear understanding of who it's meant to serve.

I'm passionate about building solutions that work in the real world—and about helping organisations develop the internal capability to sustain and grow their data practices long after our engagement ends.
